Sort Of.

Hello?

The Highly Experimental Video Highlight Reel 2.0

Some of you will remember my first Video Highlight Reel, which used Real's server and video format. I then switched some clips to OpenDivx.

My, how things have changed. Both RealNetworks and the OpenDivx team have proven themselves to be a bunch of tarts. Until recently there hasn't been a solution to serve video clips with a Linux box that didn't cost an arm and a leg, and/or make your viewers install a bloated, ad-infested piece of shit to watch them (cough RealPlayer cough).

Until now. Ogg's new Theora video format is finally getting to the point that it's usable. The catch? I'm going to ask you to install VideoLAN Client, a really nice piece of software that can do a lot more than just watch Theora videos, if you're so inclined.

So, try this:
  1. Download and install the VideoLAN Client.
  2. Run VideoLAN Client, and select File-->Open Network Stream.
  3. In the Open field, enter "http://www.morriss.org/video/testmovie.ogg" (hint: copy and paste it)
  4. You should see and hear some wacky stuff going on.
  5. Let me know how this goes for you.
Use this same technique to play the other clips on this page. You could just download the movie and play it locally. Or, you could tell your browser to use VideoLAN client to play .ogg files (I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader :) .

DISCLAIMER:
These clips are NOT family-oriented. If you're offended easily, I'm not sure why you went this deep into my website, but turn back now!

The Clips:

Shagpalace Furniture Adventures

Get out of the way!(Produced Jan. 12th, 2002)

For some reason Thomas started cleaning and rearranging his home. Of course, beer was involved. You can guess the rest.

A Late Night At The Admiral Benbow Inn
(Or, How Not To Light A Scene)

We were drinkin'....If memory serves me, this was taped in late 1995. David, Paul, and yours truly went to Super Chevy Sunday in Memphis, TN. Unfortunately, rooms were hard to come by due to a Grateful Dead concert that same weekend. The only room available was at the Admiral Benbow Inn, a D-I-V-E. After a night of heavy drinking at several of Memphis' "finer gentlemen's establishments," this interview was taped at around 2:00am on a Sunday morning.
PLEASE NOTE: David (to the right) is not testifying against the mob with his face "blurred out." The poor lighting and video compression just make it look that way.

Rest in peace, David!

A Nickel Tour Of The ShagPalace

Meat good.(Taped on Sept. 8th, 2000)

You've seen glimpses of it on the webcams - but what does the rest of the ShagPalace™ look like? Here, Thomas takes you on a guided tour, with plenty of shenanigans along the way.

DISCLAIMER:

This clip will probably offend everyone that watches it. Offensive items include: It's about time for a new tour, huh? Stay tuned...

The Motor Yank

Produced in Contrast-O-Vision(Produced May 2001)

The first piece that was something more than a clip with the ends trimmed up. We set out to pull the engine from Chris' pickup. Not much in the way, plenty of room, a nice engine hoist (thanks Marcus!) - a simple task, right? Well...we had some beer, too. And his strange neighbor comes over and starts unzipping his pants. Eeeew!

This is a transcode from the old OpenDivx version to Ogg Theora. We didn't lose much detail in the conversion, but it still looks pretty crappy. Stick with it - it's funny.
