Frequently Asked
Questions
Revision 1.0 - 4/11/2005
Q: Why on earth would you plan a trip when gas is so expensive?
A: The short
answer: Get over it.
The long answer:
When it comes to gasoline prices, everyone has a different pain
threshhold. Since my daily driver consumes liquid dinosaur like a Navy
frigate, my pain threshhold is pretty high. To avoid any
bias, let's do the math:
Distance from Conway to Mammoth Spring: Approximately 150mi one way, so
300mi round-trip.
Example Gas Mileage (yours might be better or worse): 15mi/gal
OK then, let's pad it and say we've got to buy 22 gallons of gas to get
there and back. let's say gas was $1.50/gal this time last year. It's
around $2.25/gal right now.
Then: $33.00
Now: $49.50
Difference: $16.50
Shee-it. Are you going to skip this one to save less than twenty bucks?
Q: Where it it happening?
A: Many Islands Camp, Mammoth
Spring, Arkansas.
Q: How do I get there?
A: Use your favorite road atlas
to get to Hardy, AR. Then use this map.
Q: What the hell exactly are we
doing at this thing?
A: Why do people keep asking me
this? Don't they know already? Some high points:
- Arrive, set up camp, and booze it up Friday the 20th
- Booze it up and float the Spring River Saturday the 21st
- It's a 10-mile
float.
- I'm thinking about renting a raft, so I can use the new
Float-Cam®. If you're interested in rafting with me, let me know!
- Have the Big Dinner Event
and booze it up Saturday night
- I have no idea what I'm cooking yet. If you have
suggestions please let me hear them!
- This year I'm going to ask for $4 per person to cover
the menu.
- Per Rick's suggestion, we're going to have a Wacky Hat
Competition. Who knows, we might give away prizes. Bring your hat!
- Wake up, eat breakfast, booze it up, break camp, and leave
the afternoon of Sunday the 22nd
Q: What should I bring?
A: Some cash for
campsite and canoe rental, food (including the Big Dinner Event),
beverages of your choice, and a dry place to sleep.
Q: How much is all this
going to cost?
A: Example for two people that
can stand each other enough to camp and float together:
- Camping for two nights at Many Islands Camp: $28
- Canoe rental, double occupancy: $34
- Two half-gallon jugs of Jim Beam: $40
- Hot dogs and buns: $10
- BC Powder to nurse the hangovers and post-float-trip
bruises: $5
- Look
here for detailed pricing.
Q: Should I let someone
know if I'm going/not going?
A: Yes! Let Perry know.
Q: Who's going?
A: I have no idea. We'll post a
headcount as we get more information.
